Contact investigation
Contact investigation and associate investigation are essential components of any program of tuberculosis prevention. A contact investigation is the systematic evaluation of the tuberculosis status of the contacts of an identified case of active tuberculosis. The investigation is prioritized to assess first persons with a greater relative risk of infection depending on the degree of exposure (household, work) and second casual contacts if the risk of infection is proven to be high among close contacts.

As associate investigation, examines the tuberculosis status of all close contacts of a child with a positive TST to identify the source case and other infected contacts. The urgency and the extent of the investigation should be individualized for each patient on the basis of the apparent infectiousness of the person with active tuberculosis.
